Role Overview
We seek an experienced Senior Data Centre Technician to join our Brisbane facility team. This pivotal role supports the City Facility Manager by ensuring top-tier technical maintenance and efficient customer service within the data centre operations. The role includes leadership responsibilities as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the technician team and participation in an on-call roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain safe, secure, and dependable data centre operations overseeing workplace health and safety, security, and critical facility systems.
- Coordinate customer provisioning activities, guaranteeing timely and accurate completion with high-quality results.
- Manage contractors, balance workloads, and allocate staffing resources aligned with operational demands and service level agreements.
- Plan and oversee cabling infrastructure capacity to facilitate customer expansion and service reliability.
- Serve as the facility SME for communications infrastructure encompassing cabling, power monitoring, rack security, and environmental controls.
- Support customer equipment installations, routine facility upkeep, and daily operational tasks.
- Ensure exemplary facility cleanliness, appearance, and operational preparedness.
- Escalate incidents per protocol and assist in their swift resolution.
- Initiate continuous process improvements in operations through enhanced policies and workflows.
- Lead training programs and provide technical mentorship within the team.
- Prepare operational performance reports and recommend enhancements to boost efficiency.
- Collaborate across departments to deliver superior customer service and align with business goals.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen technical and operational skills.
- Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in critical facility or data centre environments.
- Formal qualifications in electrical or telecommunications disciplines combined with practical experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience or background in team leadership roles.
- Preferred Certificate III in Telecommunications Systems.
Desired Skills
- Exceptional customer service aptitude with experience handling queries and escalations.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Familiarity with data centre operations including rack management and installation of IT equipment, power, and cooling systems.
- Expertise in structured cabling, cable management, and quality control procedures.
- Proficient communicator with both written and verbal skills.
- Interest in learning about high-density power and advanced cooling technologies.
- Competency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Knowledge of building management and monitoring systems is advantageous.
- Relevant electrical or telecommunications installation and testing certifications are preferred.
- Basic understanding of the ITIL framework is a plus.
