Self Checkout Attendant

Position Overview

Serving as a Self Checkout Attendant at Walmart Canada provides an excellent chance to develop strong customer service skills and a deep understanding of retail operations. The role focuses on enhancing the shopping experience by assisting customers with self-service checkout transactions and offering friendly and effective support.

Core Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized self checkout area free from clutter, debris, and spills.
• Promote Walmart’s company programs such as credit card services, product protection plans, and charitable causes when applicable.
• Assist customers in using self checkout efficiently by monitoring activity, providing timely help, and handling necessary checks with clear and reassuring communication.
• Escalate cash or technical problems to the Customer Service Manager as needed.
• Respond promptly to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alarms, following procedure and logging any “Failure to Deactivate” incidents accurately.
• Ensure Scan & Go devices are returned to their rightful storage locations after use.
• Show flexibility by working various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support operational needs and consistent customer service.

Potential Challenges

• Manage high volumes of tasks in a fast-paced environment, especially during overnight hours, while maintaining focus and energy.
• Handle physical activities such as standing for long periods, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Perform repetitive stocking, zoning, and product organization duties with attention to detail to maintain store standards.

Compensation

The starting pay rate for this position is $18.40 per hour.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
