Scientist III - Inhalation Pharma

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific's PPD® Laboratory Services as a Scientist III focusing on inhalation pharmaceutical products. Located in Athlone, Ireland, this role supports our mission to improve global health through high-quality scientific research, development, and delivery of therapies. You will conduct complex lab analyses under GMP conditions, contributing to impactful clinical science and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct method validations, analytical testing, and method transfers of pharmaceutical compounds, especially inhalation formulations, independently.
• Design and execute experiments with minimal oversight.
• Prepare study protocols, status updates, final reports, and other scientific documentation.
• Communicate technical findings and data to clients, addressing their needs effectively.
• Mentor colleagues, coordinate lab activities, and troubleshoot instrument and analytical challenges.
• Assist with methodology design and project scheduling.
• Review analytical data ensuring compliance with protocols, SOPs, GMP, and client specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum five years' industry experience within a GMP laboratory.
• Proficient with HPLC and Empower software; experience in method validation, method transfer, and analytical testing.
• Specific expertise in analytical testing of inhalation devices such as pMDIs, DPIs, nebulizers, nasal sprays, and novel devices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Competence with laboratory instrumentation including HPLC, GC, MS, dissolution testing, Karl Fischer titration, UV-Vis, FT-IR, and TOC.
• Familiarity with inhalation device evaluation, cascade impaction, dose delivery, and particle size analysis.
• Strong understanding of method validation; method development skills are advantageous.
• Effective project planning and execution skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a positive collaborative attitude.

Work Environment and Conditions

• Standard working schedule: Monday to Friday.
• Laboratory setting adhering to GMP safety standards.
• Ability to stand or remain stationary during working hours and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Comfortable working in non-traditional environments and handling laboratory hazards such as infectious agents.
• Proficient use of standard office technology.
• Capability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure.
