Role overview

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will lead and support primary survey research with Etsy buyers and sellers, including both ad hoc studies and tracking programs.

  • Collaborate with other survey researchers to shape study design and create user-focused questionnaires.
  • Set up and deploy surveys across different parts of the marketplace experience.
  • Use R, SPSS, or Python to analyze survey data, identify trends, and surface actionable insights.
  • Use SQL to retrieve and work with data that connects behavioral signals to survey findings.
  • Create and maintain dashboards for tracking research metrics, ongoing studies, and important experience indicators.
  • Coordinate survey sample management and help ensure data quality.
  • Produce clear, recommendation-oriented reports that support marketplace health and Etsy’s business objectives.
  • Work with Product, Design, and Marketing partners to shape product decisions using user research and UX best practices.
  • Independently define project scope and choose the right methods for both foundational and evaluative research needs.
  • Partner with other insights specialists to build broader approaches that address stakeholder needs and advocate for strong research practices across the company.
  • Oversee third-party vendors such as sample providers and research agencies when needed.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned, with responsibilities subject to change at Etsy’s discretion and where allowed by local law.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in quantitative survey research, either in-house or through an agency.
  • Strong working ability in R, SPSS, or Python for analysis and data manipulation.
  • Practical SQL/database querying experience for accessing and interpreting behavioral or product data.
  • Experience creating and maintaining dashboards to communicate metrics and research results.
  • Comfort managing the complete survey workflow, from questionnaire design and programming through fielding and statistical analysis such as inferential statistics, correlations, and regression.
  • Strong attention to detail along with excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage several projects at once and balance competing priorities.
  • Confidence in meetings and the ability to present findings with a customer-focused perspective.

  • Preferred background in ecommerce or other digital product research.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field such as psychology, sociology, HCI, or marketing.
