About the Team

This position is part of the Print Operations Department, responsible for manufacturing various newspaper titles such as The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Investors Business Daily, and New York Post.

Role Overview

The role involves operating, preparing, and maintaining newspaper printing presses and associated equipment to produce Dow Jones and contract print publications efficiently while ensuring the highest quality standards. The position is based in LaGrange, Georgia, and reports to the Foreman/Woman.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare printing presses for nightly operations of Dow Jones publications.
  • Operate presses with a focus on enhancing Production Quality Score, which considers reproduction quality, content freshness, productivity, and cost-effective material use.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors and co-workers to accomplish departmental goals.
  • Assist in training new team members.
  • Adhere to performance standards, participate in recommended training, and complete assigned tasks.
  • Follow all corporate and plant policies and procedures diligently.
  • Document operational and maintenance activities accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate with the production manager to prioritize equipment maintenance.
  • Perform tasks including making pasters, managing web presses, pushing rolls, hanging printing plates, setting color and registration, and conducting general cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met in terms of reproduction quality, content timeliness, productivity, and cost-effective material usage.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years experience operating newspaper printing presses.
  • Capable of standing for approximately 7.25 hours, lifting up to 50 pounds, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, and handling heavy machinery with multiple moving parts.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Good color vision and mechanical aptitude.
  • Prior experience in cold web offset newspaper production is advantageous.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Competency in using business PC applications and managing press control systems.

Base salary ranges from $45,000 to $60,000 annually, subject to factors such as experience, skills, and location. Bonus targets and benefits packages are also offered based on role eligibility.
