Job description

Job Purpose

The primary duty of the Bus Driver is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school as well as school-related activities. The role involves collaborating as part of a team to support the growth and development of children and youth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Capable of operating a school bus safely and with confidence.
  • Thorough understanding of The Highway and Transportation Act and The Traffic Safety Act.
  • Familiar with the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook and Saskatchewan Commercial Driver's Handbook.
  • Experienced in applying various student behavior management strategies that emphasize positive reinforcement.
  • Demonstrates patience, maturity, and background working with children.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision.

Qualifications

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid School Bus Endorsement.
  • Training is available for those not yet licensed as school bus drivers.
  • Driver's abstract must be clear with no major infractions and covering a five-year driving record.
  • Applicants must submit a current five-year driver’s abstract from SGI either by upload, email, or fax.
  • Medical examination as per The Highway Traffic Act standards is required and must be satisfactory.
  • Current First Aid Certification is required or willingness to obtain one at the employer's expense.

Working Conditions and Compensation

  • Full-time routes compensated at a daily base rate of $58.63 plus a per kilometer rate of $0.23.
  • 100% employer-funded health benefits package.
  • An employer-matched pension plan is provided.
  • Drivers with young children have the option to bring their children on the bus during routes.
  • Work requires operating in diverse climatic and road conditions.
  • Physical capability at times to assist with loading and unloading students who use wheelchairs may be necessary.
  • Position start date is August 28, 2026.
