Job purpose
This role is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving detailed project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6. The planner also acts as a coordination point between project teams and support functions to keep plans aligned and smoothly rolled out.
Technical responsibilities
- Keep Primavera P6 databases and schedules accurate and up to date.
- Develop baseline schedules that reflect the approved scope of work and project milestones.
- Set up activities, durations, dependencies, and schedule constraints.
- Create work breakdown structures (WBS) for project planning.
- Build critical path method (CPM) schedules.
- Establish logic links and sequencing networks between activities.
- Carry out schedule analysis and prepare related reports.
- Produce histograms and forecasts for manpower needs.
- Handle schedule revisions and prepare recovery programmes when required.
Site and operational responsibilities
- Check progress on site with project teams and confirm actual execution status.
- Make sure the activity sequence is practical and achievable.
- Prepare short-term recovery plans when delays or slippages arise.
- Assist with construction strategy and execution planning.
Progress monitoring and reporting
- Revise schedules using the latest site progress information.
- Compare planned performance against actual results.
- Monitor critical path tasks and track float usage.
- Prepare weekly progress reports.
- Develop look-ahead schedules.
- Create S-curves.
- Build KPI dashboards.
- Prepare delay analysis reports.
Planning and programme development
- Prepare Level 1 to Level 5 programmes depending on the complexity of the project.
- Develop schedules for procurement, engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Integrate schedules from subcontractors and suppliers into the master programme.
- Sequence work activities in the most efficient order for execution.
- Assign manpower, equipment, and materials to tasks.
- Carry out resource loading and leveling.
- Support project cash flow forecasting.
- Work with cost control teams on earned value analysis.
Qualifications and experience
The preferred candidate should hold a Diploma, Technical Qualification, High School Certificate, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. The role calls for 6 to 8 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, ideally gained in the Oil & Gas sector. Strong command of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office is required, along with good organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
