As a Nursing Officer, you will utilize your extensive nursing background to provide expert clinical guidance in an international medical assistance environment. Working closely with medical, operational, and logistics experts, you will assess complex medical scenarios, support medical evacuations and repatriations, and review treatment plans to ensure optimal and cost-effective patient care outcomes.

Job Details

Position: Nursing Officer
Location: Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, or Brisbane, Australia
Work Style: Hybrid (combination of onsite and remote)
Working Hours: Four 10-hour days per week, from 07:30 to 17:30
Reporting To: Chief Nursing Officer
Employment Eligibility: Must have legal authorization to work in Australia; visa sponsorship not available

Key Responsibilities

Collect and evaluate verbal and written medical updates for inpatients
Analyze ongoing treatment plans and real-time care delivery
Judge medical necessity and suitability for medical evacuation or repatriation
Recommend cost-saving measures without compromising care quality
Provide clinical insights regarding acute and pre-existing medical conditions
Review medical histories and collaborate on policy coverage and benefits assessment
Coordinate with operations and flight teams to ensure clinical support for escorted repatriations
Offer travel health advice via phone and email to individual and corporate clients
Advocate for patients and deliver health education as appropriate
Preserve confidentiality of sensitive medical information
Engage in continuous professional development and quality improvement efforts
Document customer concerns and escalate issues when necessary
Support urgent clinical reviews outside normal hours
Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

Current Registered Nurse (RN) registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
Minimum of five years post-registration experience in acute clinical settings such as Emergency Nursing, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care, or Prehospital/Retrieval Medicine
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, illness, and injury
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively in team settings
Flexibility and adaptability to changing work demands
Commitment to completing a six-week intensive in-person training program followed by up to five months of hybrid training during probation

Preferred Skills and Experience

Certifications or experience in flight nursing or aeromedical retrieval
Experience in medical case management internationally or pre-authorization reviews
Mentoring or teaching capabilities
International travel experience and multilingual abilities
