Role Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate closely with the production team to provide technical support across various stages of coach assembly including concept, prototype, pilot, and full production phases. This role supports initial and ongoing builds of new and revised systems, assists with design improvements, performs root cause analyses, and engages in continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support production for initial and subsequent builds on new or modified systems
- Contribute to production planning to ensure readiness for upcoming coach builds
- Develop and provide detailed routing instructions and assembly sequences for components at all assembly stages
- Propose and prepare design amendments to correct existing designs
- Identify, recommend, and implement cost-saving initiatives to lower coach manufacturing expenses
- Assist in audits to verify bill of materials and routing accuracy and investigate discrepancies
- Evaluate tooling and fixtures to enhance assembly efficiency
- Research and introduce advancements in manufacturing technologies and practices
- Create production documentation including procedures, work instructions, and visual aids to meet design and customer requirements
- Participate in cross-functional problem-solving meetings aimed at process enhancements
- Engage in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives such as 5S and value stream mapping
Candidate Requirements
- Certification as a Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineer or Engineering Technologist, or equivalent education/experience
- 1 to 5 years of manufacturing experience, ideally in transportation, automotive, or bus manufacturing
- Knowledge and experience working within Six Sigma, Lean, and Just-In-Time (JIT) environments
- Proficiency in English for reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and documents like blueprints
- Self-driven with minimal supervision, detail and process-oriented
- Competency in Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems
- Experience with AutoCAD or CAD/CAM software is advantageous
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in manufacturing settings
