Job description
Position Overview
The Library Technician II at College of the North Atlantic's Carbonear Campus will manage all library operations in a single-location setting, assisting patrons with accessing a variety of resources and performing administrative functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage daily activities and oversee operations as the sole charge staff member of the Carbonear Library Learning Commons.
- Support patrons by helping them find print and digital materials and use public computers for basic tasks like word processing and internet browsing.
- Handle circulation tasks such as checking materials in/out, processing patron registrations and renewals, and correctly shelving items.
- Maintain the library’s collection through periodic weeding and ensuring materials are properly arranged on shelves.
- Coordinate interlibrary loans and material transfers between campuses.
- Provide reference services and basic research support to students and community members.
- Manage circulation system protocols to ensure accurate patron data and records.
- Conduct orientations to familiarize students and the public with library services and resources.
- Order and oversee subscriptions for periodicals and journals.
- Carry out general administrative tasks including mail handling, correspondence preparation, and ordering supplies.
- Perform additional duties to promote efficient library operation as needed.
Candidate Requirements
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Library Studies or an equivalent qualification.
- Recent, relevant experience delivering library services.
- Knowledge of library procedures and systems, including familiarity with library-related software and computer applications.
- Strong client service skills with the ability to exchange information effectively.
- Time management and task prioritization skills.
- Capability to perform independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional demeanor and adept interpersonal skills.
Additional Conditions
- Provision of a recent, satisfactory Certificate of Conduct upon employer request.
- Verification of credentials and any required licenses or certifications.
- Physical demands include occasional bending, kneeling, stretching, and working in confined spaces, frequently lifting and moving items weighing between 10 to 25 lbs.
