Job Overview

The General Labourer role involves performing various physical and maintenance tasks at outdoor work sites, primarily focusing on cleaning, equipment operation, and safety compliance, to support operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas by routinely cleaning and tidying up.
  • Refuel vehicles and machinery as needed to ensure smooth operations.
  • Clean tracks on tracked machinery and related equipment to maintain functionality.
  • Carry out yard maintenance activities including mowing grass and collecting paper litter.
  • Operate general site vehicles and equipment such as water trucks, pickups, sweepers, mowers, and trimming tools.
  • Adhere strictly to company safety policies and relevant federal, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Conduct various office maintenance duties, including painting and janitorial tasks.
  • Manage traffic flow at the worksite when required to ensure safety.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support operational needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Must satisfy all company safety-sensitive function criteria.
  • Basic literacy skills including reading, writing, and fundamental math are essential.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under limited supervision.
  • Capability to operate all necessary equipment for the role.
  • Exhibit practical problem-solving skills using sound judgment.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift regularly in outdoor environments (approximately 90% of the time).
  • Use of hands and fingers, kneeling, crawling, talking, hearing, climbing, and balance required.
  • Visual skills including close and distance vision, color recognition, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Regular manual lifting of items up to 65 pounds and ability to push or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Working Conditions

  • Exposed frequently to loud noises and various weather conditions including humidity, rain, storms, extreme heat, and cold depending on the season.
  • Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and airborne hazards such as toxic or caustic chemicals and fumes.
  • Occupied in outdoor settings nearly 100% of the time during duties.
  • Frequent travel on routes away from the main branch throughout the workday.
  • Occasional work at elevated or precarious locations.
  • Consistently working amid motor vehicle traffic and in generally noisy environments.
