General Labour Lead Hand

About the Role

As the Sample Preparation Lead Hand, you will supervise the sample preparation floor during your shift to ensure smooth operations and adherence to client instructions and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sample processing tasks such as ringing, sieving, and crushing.
• Manage shipment layouts and verify shipment documents.
• Handle scanning of received weights, screening processes, and oven loading/unloading.
• Create work orders, generate labels for bags and boxes, and conduct quality control inspections.
• Execute specialized sample preparation procedures as needed.
• Receive samples and generate proper records.
• Maintain production levels during shifts, ensuring timely sample preparation turnaround.
• Identify and assist in resolving internal and external issues promptly.
• Train new sample preparation technicians and report their performance to the shift supervisor.
• Perform basic mechanical maintenance duties.
• Serve as backup to the floor supervisor and undertake other duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications and Abilities

• Degree or diploma in mineralogy, geology, chemistry or relevant equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in commercial mineral laboratories or in minerals sample preparation preferred.
• Forklift certification/license required.
• Valid Level 1 First Aid certification.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory computer systems and basic computer proficiency.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment maintenance.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and great attention to detail, committed to quality.

Physical Requirements

• Capability to lift weights up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit or stand for shifts lasting up to 7.5 hours.
• Work environment may be warm and dusty.
• Must be clean-shaven to properly wear protective equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

• The starting hourly wage is approximately $25.58 CAD, adjusted for individual skills, qualifications, and experience.
• Additional shift premiums: $2 per hour for evening shifts and $4 per hour for night shifts when applicable.
