Earthworks Superintendent

Position Overview

The Earthworks Superintendent leads and manages heavy civil and industrial earthworks operations within mining and infrastructure projects. This position is based in Arnea, Greece, following a rotational schedule of six weeks on-site followed by two weeks off. The superintendent ensures that grading, excavation, road building, dam foundation works, and overall site preparation are carried out safely, efficiently, and according to design and regulatory standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee subcontracted earthworks teams daily, directing their activities and maintaining close supervision.
• Assess contractor performance in terms of safety adherence, scheduling, and quality benchmarks.
• Guarantee that subcontractors comply with agreed contract terms, scopes, and reporting protocols.
• Manage and coordinate crews and subcontractors engaged in excavation, grading, haulage, compaction, and site preparation tasks.
• Interpret and apply construction drawings and specifications related to earthworks and heavy civil engineering scopes.
• Maintain comprehensive daily field reports, monitoring project progress relative to timelines and productivity objectives.
• Ensure all construction processes conform with project specifications, geotechnical documentation, and compaction and testing requirements.
• Facilitate and support field quality control measures, such as density testing and slope stability validations.
• Advocate and enforce environmental protection practices, especially in soil handling, drainage systems, and erosion control.
• Implement and uphold stringent site safety procedures, participate actively in safety meetings and audits, and foster a safety-first culture among all personnel and subcontractors.
• Continuously monitor field conditions to anticipate and mitigate potential hazards promptly.
• Coordinate logistics of heavy machinery usage, including dozers, scrapers, haul trucks, and graders.
• Manage earthworks material quantities, handling procedures, and schedule adherence for material deliveries.
• Collaborate with surveyors and quality assurance teams to ensure proper grade control and reporting standards.
