Job Purpose

The Customs Clearance Agent role involves managing the seamless and compliant customs clearance process for air cargo shipments. This position requires close collaboration with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and internal units to ensure timely delivery of shipments adhering to all regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit all necessary customs declarations and documentation for air shipments.
  • Ensure strict compliance with customs regulations, classification standards, and applicable duties.
  • Track shipment statuses and promptly resolve any customs-related issues.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with customs officials to address queries or discrepancies.
  • Maintain detailed records of customs transactions to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with airlines, freight forwarders, and warehouse teams to facilitate the prompt release of cargo.
  • Provide status updates to clients and internal stakeholders regarding shipment progress.
  • Work closely with customs brokers and government agencies to obtain necessary approvals and clearances.
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of all import/export documents, including invoices, packing lists, and permits.
  • Stay abreast of changes in customs legislation, regulations, and tariff structures.
  • Assist in securing special permits or exemptions when required.
  • Identify and resolve potential delays in clearance proactively.
  • Manage disputes related to valuation, duties, or classifications with customs authorities.
  • Ensure expedited resolution of any customs inspections or holds.
  • Maintain shipment logs and organize all related documentation systematically.
  • Produce reports detailing clearance performance, duty expenditures, and compliance risks.
  • Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and clarifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum educational requirement: High School diploma.
  • Proficient in English language communication.
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience working within customs laws and regulations.
  • Previous experience in customs brokerage firms, freight forwarding, or logistics fields is essential.
