About the Team
The Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe offers 95 beds and a variety of general and specialized health services, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, day surgery and endoscopy, rehabilitation, palliative care, and day oncology. The hospital focuses on elective surgeries and maintains strong collaborations with the University of Tasmania's Rural Clinical School and TAFE Tasmania, fostering well-rounded clinical training. Its specialties include Dental Surgery, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, and Endoscopy.
This position involves working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and supportive team environment providing efficient sterilisation and decontamination services.
Role Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, package, sterilise, and distribute reusable medical devices (RMDs) to operating theatres and various clinical areas.
- Uphold a clean and sterile environment in the Central Sterilising Department to aid in infection control.
- Primarily work at Mersey Community Hospital with occasional casual shifts at North West Regional Hospital as needed.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess knowledge, experience, or qualifications in sterilising technology, or willingness to complete relevant Sterilising Services courses.
- Demonstrate ability to maintain equipment and environment cleanliness complying with infection control standards.
- Capable of learning organisational protocols for RMD decontamination and reprocessing and acting accordingly.
- Experience in healthcare settings is desirable but not mandatory.
Appointment Details
- This is a fixed-term, casual role for about 12 months starting as soon as possible.
- Work hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
- The selection process may fill future vacancies across full-time, part-time, and casual roles within 12 months.
Salary and Benefits
The annual remuneration ranges between $70,033 and $75,114 (pro rata) with an additional 12% employer superannuation contribution. The salary aligns with the Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award, General Stream, Operational Health Officer, Level 3.
