Role Overview
Join Auckland Council as a Compliance Officer within the Biosecurity Compliance Programme, working to protect the environment and communities of Tāmaki Makaurau. This fixed-term position emphasizes leading compliance efforts through education, engagement, and enforcement to mitigate risks, reduce recurring issues, and enhance biosecurity outcomes.
Key Duties
- Deliver education and guidance to customers on regulatory compliance matters.
- Collaborate across teams, partner agencies, and local communities to foster compliance initiatives and achieve positive outcomes.
- Design and implement compliance projects that address root causes and promote sustainable behavior changes.
- Support the fulfillment of Māori outcomes and the Māori Responsiveness Plan in the region.
- Operate primarily in Central Auckland with some regional travel flexibility.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment with a firm grasp of compliance, risk management, and regulatory frameworks. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including applying Māori cultural frameworks, are essential.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum two years of experience in a compliance or regulatory setting.
- Relevant professional or technical qualification related to compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of local government legislation such as the Resource Management Act, Building Act, Local Government Act, and Auckland’s Unitary Plan.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Current full New Zealand driver’s license.
Terms & Conditions
- Fixed-term role until 21 June 2027, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Work location is onsite in Auckland, with travel across the region as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
