Context and Environment
This position operates within a highly regulated market demanding close attention to evolving legislation and standards set by various associations. It encompasses numerous internal and external interactions including active consultations with pension and provident fund administrators, unions, and external auditors. The role requires mid-term strategic thinking (1-3 years) and the creation of innovative solutions to encountered challenges, along with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders.
Key Activities
- Manage and oversee employee compensation and benefits, maintain compensation databases, and coordinate benchmarks and annual performance evaluations.
- Design, develop, implement, and oversee salary, bonus, and benefits programs for the workforce.
- Review and update existing compensation and benefits policies and procedures to maintain compliance and relevance.
- Ensure all compensation practices align with current legislation and internal business strategies.
- Create compensation packages reflecting organizational goals and culture.
- Develop and analyze job descriptions, conduct evaluations and classifications.
- Perform salary and labor market research to establish competitive benchmarks.
- Apply effective communication techniques to convey compensation initiatives.
- Assess employee needs through organizational surveys.
- Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in compensation and benefits.
- Conduct periodic audits and produce detailed reports.
- Participate in salary surveys such as those conducted by Korn Ferry and execute specialized projects as needed.
- Coordinate the annual remuneration review process and support allocation of annual salary increases and bonuses across South Africa, including the NBE.
- Improve customer service by reviewing processes, suggesting improvements for accuracy and efficiency, reducing turnaround times, and measuring payroll issue resolution cycles and satisfaction through surveys.
Personnel Cost Planning
- Monitor and review personnel costs monthly to assist with managing the company's salary budget.
- Collaborate with Financial Control to prepare and present annual budgets and long-term plans.
- Analyze personnel costs by department and test cost scenarios related to bonuses and salary increments within parameters established by executives and the Remuneration Committee.
- Assist in monitoring the Human Resources department budget.
- Prepare annual Group BPP files and HR Diversity reports, alongside additional periodic and specialized HR budget reports.
Health, Safety, Environment, Quality (HSEQ)
Adhere to and implement relevant policies and procedures pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality in all work activities.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (Level 6).
- Exercise meticulous attention to detail while meeting deadlines, maintaining confidentiality and trustworthiness.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills along with collaboration ability to achieve business objectives.
- Exhibit negotiation and communication skills for stakeholder engagement, and leadership coupled with empathy to manage sensitive employee situations.
- Show adaptability, organizational competence, high discretion, and customer service focus.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- Broad understanding of benefits and compensation programs, policies, procedures, and applicable South African, Eswatini, and Namibia legislation.
- At least 5 years of business-related experience.
- Qualifications in business, human resources, psychology, or related fields are required.
