Role Overview

As a Clerk in the fresh produce department, you will play a key role in providing outstanding customer service, ensuring your work environment meets high standards of cleanliness and presentation. You will handle merchandising, inventory control, and assist with cashiering duties when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, process, and merchandise fresh produce along with packaged bulk foods and fruits and vegetables.
• Create and maintain attractive displays including end caps, perimeter, and seasonal featured displays, following department presentation guidelines.
• Carry out ordering, cycle counting, temperature monitoring, and inventory management tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper rotation of stockroom, walk-in cooler, fixtures, equipment, and sales floor.
• Ensure electronic and paper shelf labels are accurate and up to date for pricing, promotions, and country-of-origin details.
• Manage stockroom flow by preparing returns, salvage, and recycling including cardboard bales, empty totes, and pallets for daily warehouse shipment.
• Perform minor maintenance such as repairs, sign placement, cleaning tasks including floors, shelves, windows, parking lot, and handling waste and recycling.
• Conduct cashier duties as needed, handling various payment methods, balancing the register, and bagging purchases according to standards.
• Meet productivity benchmarks related to sales per hour and transaction speed.
• Deliver attentive and exceptional customer service consistently.
• Maintain personal and work area cleanliness and adhere to food safety and hygiene standards.
• Utilize equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.
• Perform any additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Attributes

• High school diploma is advantageous.
• Familiarity with cash register systems is a strong plus.
• Customer service orientation with strong interpersonal skills.
• Effective communication abilities and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts throughout operating hours.
• Capability to work energetically and maintain composure under pressure.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Flexible scheduling with possible overtime requirements.
• Short-term exposure to cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Capacity to safely lift items up to 20 kilograms.
