Cement Mill Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Role Overview

The Cement Mill Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, programming, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems, automation devices, and instrumentation at the cement grinding unit. The position ensures high plant availability, safety, precise process control, and efficient production through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and continuous enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution equipment including transformers, switchgears, motor control centers, motors, and soft starters.
• Perform regular upkeep of motors across high, medium, and low voltage classes, plus variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Diagnose and resolve faults in electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems linked to ball mills, separators, bucket elevators, conveyors, fans, bag filters, compressors, silos, packing machines, and loading mechanisms.
• Maintain critical grinding machinery such as ball mills, separators, ID fans, and bag filters.
• Calibrate instruments like temperature, pressure, level, and flow transmitters in alignment with defined operating procedures.
• Ensure service and upkeep of gas analyzers, dust monitors, and material weighing units to maintain environmental standards.
• Accurately record calibration findings, equipment data, and maintenance activities within the Plant Maintenance Records system (SAP).
• Support troubleshooting for PLC hardware and DCS control loops, including diagnosing industrial network communication issues.
• Collaborate closely with automation engineers to enhance interlocking logic and optimize plant start-up sequences.
• Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental protocols; immediately address electrical hazards and participate in safety drills and risk assessments.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• A diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Electronics is required.
• Preferably possess technical certifications or completion of apprenticeships in industrial electrical maintenance.
• Have at least 3 to 5 years of practical electrical & instrumentation maintenance experience within heavy industries.
• Experience within cement grinding stations, cement plants, or related sectors such as mining, power generation, or chemical processing is highly favored.
• Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting automated packing lines, bucket elevators, conveyors, and large milling equipment.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong grasp of electrical wiring diagrams and single-line schematics.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools including multimeters, meggers, loop calibrators, and oscilloscopes.
• Knowledgeable in VFD programming, soft starter operation, and low-voltage distribution systems.
• Basic familiarity with PLC logic from vendors such as Siemens and ABB.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving abilities to function effectively during high-pressure downtime.
• Good communication skills for efficient handover and teamwork.
• Physically fit to work in challenging environments including elevated areas, confined spaces, and dusty conditions.
