Overview
Qantas, established in 1920 in the Queensland outback, has become Australia’s largest airline group across regional, domestic, and international operations. As part of Qantas Engineering, you will contribute to keeping the fleet safe, reliable, and operationally effective. The team supports both the Qantas fleet and customer aircraft across the Asia-Pacific region using modern tools, strong technical standards, and a strong focus on professional excellence.
Role summary
This permanent position is based in Mascot, Sydney, and sits within the Technical Services Team that delivers Continuing Airworthiness Management Services for Qantas Group airlines. The role focuses on cabin-related avionics systems across multiple aircraft fleets, helping maintain airworthiness, improve operational performance, and manage asset cost effectively.
Key responsibilities
- Use cabin avionics expertise to support the continued airworthiness of the Qantas Group fleet.
- Work closely with a specialist engineering group committed to safety, reliability, and strong engineering outcomes.
- Support aircraft maintenance programme activities, reliability improvements, and evaluation of modifications.
- Provide timely, customer-oriented specialist engineering guidance to Qantas Group stakeholders.
- Apply mature professional engineering judgement across a broad technical scope.
- Help ensure cabin systems continue to meet the organisation’s high safety standards and operational expectations.
Required experience and capabilities
- Professional engineering qualification in Avionics, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or an equivalent discipline.
- Substantial experience in the design and development of aircraft cabin interiors for Boeing or Airbus aircraft.
- Hands-on exposure to a broad range of cabin products and suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of CASR Part 21 and Part 42; familiarity with EASA and FAA rules is an advantage.
- Experience leading small to medium design projects or tasks while balancing stakeholder needs.
- Ability to juggle competing deadlines without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly and briefly.
- Well-developed analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Comfort managing customer expectations in line with service level agreements.
- Deep understanding of continuing airworthiness procedures and Qantas/customer aircraft maintenance operations.
- A team-focused mindset with flexibility to contribute to cross-functional projects when needed.
