Job description
Position Overview
Edmund Optics is seeking a Business Development Engineer to help expand its customer base throughout Southeast Asia. This role combines technical sales expertise with business development efforts, requiring contact with existing clients, discovery of new business prospects, and close cooperation with engineering teams to tailor appropriate technical solutions to customer needs. Candidates may work on-site in Singapore or remotely from Penang, Malaysia.
Key Duties
- Maintain and deepen relationships with major clients.
- Discover growth opportunities within current accounts and cultivate connections with new customers.
- Establish solid rapport with key stakeholders on the customer side.
- Source and grow new business avenues via networking, industry gatherings, referrals, and proactive outreach.
- Keep a robust sales pipeline up-to-date.
- Plan and implement business development strategies across the designated region.
- Engage customers to assess their technical challenges and needs.
- Propose appropriate technical solutions tailored to client requirements.
- Collaborate closely with internal product and engineering teams to support business opportunities.
- Present technical product demonstrations as needed.
- Coordinate internal resources to fulfill customer demands effectively.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum three years’ experience in technical sales, account management, or business development within a technical product context.
- Background in optics, photonics, or industrial/technical products is advantageous.
- Documented success in nurturing key accounts and generating new business.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of engaging both technical and business audiences confidently.
- Self-motivated and able to operate independently managing geographical territories.
- Willingness to undertake travel across the region as necessary.
