About the Role
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Assistant Psychologists to join the North Mersey Eating Disorder Service. There are two vacancies available: one permanent and one fixed-term position lasting until 31 March 2027. Candidates must hold a degree in psychology or have psychology as a major subject. Prior experience in therapeutic roles is advantageous.
The service is undergoing expansion and transformation, presenting an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and welcoming team. Treatment offerings include both group and one-to-one interventions that employ a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), and Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA). The client population covers conditions including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and atypical presentations of eating disorders.
Service Collaboration and Scope
The team coordinates closely with multiple health sectors including primary care services, general practitioners, inpatient units (including specialist eating disorders wards and medical wards), and additional secondary mental health services. The service also champions a developing service user co-production group and provides psychological therapies for the local Weight Management Service.
Job Responsibilities
Assistant Psychologists will enhance the psychological care provided by delivering evidence-based interventions directly to clients under supervision. Responsibilities include conducting individual and group therapeutic sessions, participating actively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT), and engaging in research and audit projects alongside qualified clinical psychologists. Ongoing professional development opportunities will be supported through access to continuing professional development (CPD).
