This critical infrastructure incorporates approximately 800 structures and five tunnels, requiring constant maintenance and upgrades to ensure optimal performance.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager for Pavement Design and Asset (PDA) projects from initiation through to completion, working across the entire M25 network. Project types encompass pavement works, safety enhancements, structure refurbishments, geotechnical operations, and drainage improvements. The position will operate flexibly from offices in Leatherhead, South Mimms, or Dartford with required travel to project sites and offices, including site visits and health and safety audits, sometimes at night.

• Assist in end-to-end project delivery, ensuring compliance with time, budget, quality, and documentation standards to facilitate project closeout.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, particularly National Highways and Connect Plus, focusing on meeting client requirements.
• Implement innovative design and construction solutions to enhance project efficiency.
• Support adherence to the company’s Zero Harm safety plan across all projects.
• Manage multiple projects at various lifecycle stages under Project Manager supervision.
• Lead responsibilities include scheme development, coordination with asset teams, designers, sub-consultants, contractors, and other internal and external stakeholders such as planners and quantity surveyors.
• Oversee the P6 scheduling program with the planning team, identifying critical path tasks.
• Manage commercial aspects, including cost planning, supplier quotations, invoice reviews, forecasting, and payment applications alongside commercial teams.
• Commission and supervise both internal and external resources balancing quality, budget, and scheduling constraints.
• Lead gateway reviews and collaborative cost assessments with clients and project teams.
• Comply with project governance processes, including preparing and presenting documentation for project gateways.
• Provide regular reporting on project progress, risks, schedule, and commercial standing internally and to clients.
• Engage actively with the Collaborative M25 Community through scorecards, workshops, and forums.
• Embody and promote Connect Plus company values.
• Contribute to the business’ sustainability goals and strategic objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Preferred project management experience supported by or working towards recognized certifications such as PRINCE2 or APMP.
• Comprehensive knowledge of highway or structures engineering and related design disciplines.
• Understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations and health and safety legislation.
• Demonstrated experience in assisting project delivery for highways or structures in live operational environments or related comparable fields.
• Proven capability managing projects through all lifecycle phases and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
