About the Role
Flipkart Grocery is expanding its Staples Private Label operations throughout India. The Assistant Manager - Buying (East) will be responsible for leading sourcing, vendor development, and supply management for Staples Private Label in the East region, based primarily in Kolkata or Patna. The position demands strong commercial insight and effective relationship management with vendors to ensure competitive pricing, supply stability, and quality across key staples including rice, atta, pulses, sugar, and edible oils.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end sourcing of Staples Private Label categories in East India, handling price negotiations, margin goals, and contract agreements with regional suppliers.
- Conduct market intelligence and competitive benchmarking to identify cost-saving opportunities continuously.
- Collaborate with private label and quality assurance teams to guarantee product specifications and labeling standards compliance.
- Identify, onboard, and nurture new vendors from Kolkata, Patna, and nearby sourcing hubs to build a diversified and reliable supplier base, reducing dependence on single sources.
- Oversee value chain metrics such as procurement cost, order fill rates, product freshness, and wastage; lead vendor performance evaluations and corrective plans.
- Regularly perform vendor audits as part of field responsibilities.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to manage inbound supply and inventory replenishment, ensuring uninterrupted category service.
- Proactively monitor and address supply disruptions by collaborating with internal stakeholders and vendor partners to maintain fulfillment schedules.
Candidate Profile
- Possess 3 to 6 years of professional experience in sourcing, buying, or supply chain roles, preferably within FMCG, grocery, or e-commerce sectors.
- Hands-on experience in Staples, Fresh & Vegetables, or Agricultural sourcing will be highly advantageous.
- Academic background including mandatory graduation and preferably an MBA or PGDM degree.
- Strong capabilities in vendor negotiation and data proficiency using Excel or Google Sheets.
- Comfortable working independently in a dynamic, field-intensive role requiring extensive travel—approximately 60–70% within East India.
- Proficiency in Bengali or Hindi is beneficial for effective regional vendor engagement.
