Role Overview

The Assistant Caregiver position is a full-time, on-location role in Accra focused on supporting lead teachers and caregivers in delivering attentive care suitable to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Responsibilities include supervising children during play and learning sessions, assisting with their feeding, hygiene, and rest periods, and ensuring the classroom remains clean and safe. Additionally, the role requires preparing educational materials, facilitating learning activities, monitoring and documenting children's well-being and developmental progress, and maintaining respectful communication with families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and support children’s activities to ensure safety and engagement.
• Help with feeding, hygiene maintenance, and rest routines appropriate for each age group.
• Maintain a tidy, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Prepare materials and assist with structured educational activities.
• Observe and report on children’s health and developmental milestones.
• Work closely with team members to uphold the preschool’s standards of safety, inclusivity, and child-focused care.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with families and coworkers.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with infants and young children in childcare or preschool settings.
• Understanding of child development stages, age-appropriate activities, and positive behavior techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with children, families, and teams.
• Capability to uphold cleanliness, safety, and health protocols in the classroom.
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and sincere commitment to fostering children's well-being and growth.
• Physical ability to work full-time on-site, including standing for long periods, lifting, and active participation with children.
• Formal qualifications or certifications in early childhood education or childcare are beneficial.
• Compliance with background checks and provision of references as part of child safeguarding policies.
