AI Software Engineer Intern

Overview

Apprenticely is assisting Bastazo in recruiting an AI Software Engineer Intern to join their office in Bentonville, Arkansas. Applicants must reside in Arkansas to be considered. This full-time internship offers the opportunity to engage deeply in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing by participating in all phases of the software development lifecycle. Interns will work on both client-facing products as well as innovative AI research projects.

Bastazo develops AI-powered cybersecurity solutions aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure operational technology systems. Their approach shifts organizations from reactive defenses to proactive risk management by integrating machine learning, adversary intelligence, and attack path modeling to prioritize threats and guide remediation efforts. Bastazo emphasizes actionable OT security by enabling teams to identify key priorities without overwhelming alerts or disrupting operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build full-stack web applications using modern frameworks and languages.
• Develop backend APIs and services following up-to-date software engineering standards.
• Create responsive frontend interfaces leveraging current JavaScript frameworks.
• Employ agentic AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor to speed up quality software creation.
• Design AI-driven workflows, automation processes, and intelligent agents to enhance functionality.
• Participate in cloud-native deployments and manage associated infrastructure.
• Support containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and other DevOps automations.
• Maintain AI infrastructure, including model deployment, vector databases, retrieval systems, and GPU workloads.
• Engage in software testing, quality assurance, and peer code reviews.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity experts to integrate AI technologies in practical security applications.
• Document software architectures, APIs, and development procedures thoroughly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with full-stack web technologies (Django, FastAPI, React, Vue, Angular, or similar).
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database solutions.
• Proficient with Docker and Kubernetes container orchestration.
• Linux system administration skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Competence in infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Understanding of Large Language Models and prompt engineering techniques.
• Familiarity with AI agent frameworks like LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, and embeddings.
• Machine learning techniques using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
• Knowledge of deep reinforcement learning principles.
• Experience with MLOps tools and deployment pipelines.
• Strong background in automated testing and test-driven development.
• Insight into cybersecurity principles and secure coding best practices.

Requirements

• Must currently reside in Arkansas state.
• Willingness and ability to pass a background check.
• Availability to work 32 to 40 hours weekly during the three-month internship period.
• Authorization to work full-time in the United States without needing visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Technical aptitude demonstrated through projects, experience, or self-learning and ability to clearly communicate knowledge.
• Proficient programming skills in Python.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming methodologies.
• Working knowledge of software engineering foundations and version control systems, specifically Git.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Adaptability to learn new technologies independently and collaborate effectively within a team setting.

The interview process includes an initial phone screening and skills assessment conducted by Apprenticely. Successful candidates will be forwarded to Bastazo for further recruitment and interviewing, culminating in an internship offer.
