About the Role

This role is part of the MacKillop National After Hours Services Unit, dedicated to delivering high-quality residential care that addresses the emotional, social, and behavioural needs of vulnerable young people. The After Hours Support Worker reports to the After Hours Support Worker Coordinator and is essential in providing exemplary care that meets daily needs while ensuring positive outcomes for young people and their families. Team collaboration includes active participation in meetings with the National After Hours Support Worker Team and other relevant forums.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for young people.
• Support the development of young people's independent living skills.
• Uphold and protect the rights of young people.
• Deliver residential care aligned with organisational values, policies, and the 'Way We Work With Young People' framework.
• Collaborate closely with residential care colleagues, case workers, service providers, and families.
• Fulfill 'roving' duties across residential units within the Canberra region.
• Maintain thorough documentation including case notes, communication logs, incident and hazard reports.

Role Details

This vacancy includes one full-time position and multiple casual roles located in Canberra under the Residential Care Program, reporting directly to the After Hours Coordinator.

Selection Criteria

• Understanding of Aboriginal culture and values alongside awareness of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal children, youth, and families.
• Prior experience in youth services or residential care.
• Capability to connect with young people facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
• Competence in applying behaviour management strategies for youth demonstrating challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles within a care setting.
• Exceptional communication skills in both verbal and written forms.

• Valid current Driver’s Licence.
• Satisfactory Criminal History Check (arranged and paid by employer).
• Current Employee Working with Children Check.
• Valid NDIS Workers Screening Check (support provided for application).
