Academic Advisor - GT School (Remote)

About the Role and Organization

This position invites highly accomplished individuals—whether from athletic, artistic, leadership, or other performance backgrounds—to inspire and mentor K–8 gifted learners remotely. GT Anywhere is a virtual learning institution crafted for gifted students who learn quickly, blending AI-supported curriculum with personalized coaching, offering academic acceleration, deep scientific and humanities exploration, and a strong community of intellectually like-minded peers.

As an Academic Advisor, you will not teach content directly because the school's technology handles that. Instead, your role focuses on mentoring students to build confidence, uphold rigorous standards, and unlock their full potential through meaningful guidance and motivation.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing biweekly one-on-one virtual coaching sessions with students, focusing on academic strategy, motivation, and cultivating a growth mindset.
• Maintaining open "office hours" that give students live access to support, encouragement, and problem-solving assistance.
• Utilizing AI-based analytic tools and dashboards to track student progress, identify challenges, and adapt coaching methods accordingly.
• Recording observations, concerns, and strategy updates to ensure each learner remains on an accelerated path.
• Collaborating with team members to share successful coaching approaches, escalate issues when necessary, and continuously improve the coaching process.

Responsibilities To Avoid

• Delivering instructional content, grading, or assigning homework, as the educational technology manages these aspects.
• Providing lectures or following a set curriculum syllabus.
• Overseeing unmotivated students; coaching here focuses on empowered engagement rather than control.
• Participating in excessive meetings or bureaucratic tasks.
• Operating with low energy or impact, as the role demands high performance and meaningful contribution.

Required Qualifications

• A Master's degree in any discipline.
• Minimum one year of experience coaching, mentoring, or motivating students in grades K–8.
• At least six months of experience supporting gifted learners through education, coaching, or mentorship.
• Demonstrated exceptional achievement in fields such as academics, athletics, entrepreneurship, or arts.
• Comfortable engaging with students virtually via platforms like Zoom or Google Meet.
• Proficient in using performance tracking dashboards and technology tools to monitor and adjust student progress.
• Ability to work during at least 80% of U.S. business hours to maximize student interaction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in any field.
• Experience or background in performance coaching, sports psychology, or motivational techniques.
• Familiarity with homeschooling or alternative education family environments.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time position requiring a 40-hour workweek, engaged as an independent contractor through an agreement with Crossover. The role is available immediately and compensates $37 USD per hour, which is approximately $75,000 USD annually based on 40 hours weekly work over 50 weeks yearly. Payment is made on a weekly basis.
