About Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center
Goddard Riverside Community Center alongside Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center serve approximately 30,000 residents in Manhattan, New York City. These long-established agencies provide critical social services targeting children, youth, families, homeless populations, and seniors across Manhattan. Their mission is to foster equity by empowering individuals with opportunities to improve their lives.
Program Overview
In partnership with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Goddard Riverside manages a Beacon Community Center located on the Upper Westside. Beacon Centers operate within public schools citywide and cater to youth from kindergarten through age 21, as well as adults aged 22 and older including seniors. These centers function year-round during non-school hours — weekdays, evenings, weekends, and summer — to deliver integrated, community-specific programming. Notably, during summer, they collaborate with NYC Public Schools on the Summer Rising program.
Role Purpose and Activities
The Youth Worker role involves aiding a co-ed group of children from kindergarten to fifth grade, organized by grade level through eighth grade. Key activities include fostering reading skills, facilitating project-based learning, organizing group games, developing social-emotional skills, and coordinating field trips. Youth Workers engage actively in all daily events, aiming to nurture a supportive and creative atmosphere that promotes participants’ social and intellectual growth through group-oriented approaches.
Schedule and Compensation
The position operates Monday through Friday, generally from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, totaling up to 20 hours per week. This is a seasonal role with the program concluding in June 2026. Hourly wages range from $17 to $18, contingent upon experience and qualifications.
