Role Overview
We are seeking a Backend Developer intern to join our dynamic team and contribute to ecobee's continued success. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on innovative Java-based server applications and cloud deployments across AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement production backend features collaboratively within the team.
- Engage in planning, scoping, and defining specifications for new functionalities.
- Gain hands-on experience with performance and unit testing as well as debugging high-traffic systems.
- Utilize advanced backend technologies and methodologies in daily tasks.
- Receive mentorship from senior software engineers to enhance your skills.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Golang, Java, C#, Node.js/JavaScript with TypeScript, or Python.
- Comfortable running code on Linux-based environments.
- Some familiarity with cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Heroku.
- Understanding of production deployment processes including code review, merging, and cloud/datacenter orchestration.
- Interest or experience working with databases.
- Motivated to improve software craftsmanship.
- Curious, thoughtful, and practical mindset.
- Passionate about making a positive environmental and intellectual contribution.
- Must be able to complete a background check.
Additional Information
- Flexible working hours with options for office, hybrid, or fully remote work depending on role requirements.
- Mandatory vaccination policy for working onsite at the Toronto office or attending ecobee-sponsored events in Ontario.
- Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, with necessary equipment provided remotely.
