The Azure Data engineering division spearheads advancements in data analytics, offering a suite of products including Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. The team's purpose is to establish the data platform for the AI era, enabling data-centric applications and fostering a strong data-driven culture.

Within Azure Data, the databases team designs and sustains Microsoft's operational database systems for structured data management across diverse industries. The focus is on developing developer-friendly, highly reliable, AI-enabled operational databases across relational, non-relational, and open-source service offerings.

Our dedicated team is responsible for building and scaling the capacity management infrastructure for Azure SQL Database. As a Software Engineer, your role will include enhancing reliability, performance, security, and operational excellence to support scalable cloud database experiences through ownership of platform primitives, microservices, and end-to-end service health management for critical SQL DB workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain scalable services to manage capacity allocation, placement, and lifecycle for Azure SQL Database workloads.
• Enhance service reliability, performance, and availability by implementing automation, improving observability, and preventing incidents.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within Azure Data to deliver resilient solutions centered on customer needs for mission-critical workloads.
• Adopt modern engineering practices such as continuous integration/deployment, automated testing, telemetry-informed development, and DevOps methodologies.
• Boost developer efficiency by creating and refining tooling, frameworks, and automation solutions.

Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a comparable technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated programming expertise in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Additional Information

Applicants must satisfy Microsoft, customer, and governmental security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and subsequently every two years.
