Role Overview

As a Site Reliability Engineer in the Technology team, your primary responsibility will be to sustain the health of technology services spanning a variety of production and resilient backup workloads. Your tasks will include ensuring platform stability, managing releases, performing quality control, and maintaining the overall health of the ecosystem such as addressing vulnerabilities, meeting technology control levels (TCLs), environment updates, patching, and version management. You will also design and carry out technical modifications as needed.

This is a permanent role based in Auckland or Wellington with a standard workweek of 37.5 hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the production stability of the global C1 Sky service, which accounts for up to half its capacity, within a worldwide operational framework.
• Oversee the reliability of cloud-based applications in New Zealand, including Sky Robust Backup, Gabor, and BS11 Applications, ensuring all comply with New Zealand technology policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory mandates.
• Partner with the Chapter and delivery collaborators such as Institutional Technology, Managed Service Providers, and Technology Operations to facilitate knowledge exchange and promote best practices for Institutional NZ cloud workloads.
• Create automation solutions that minimize manual efforts and reduce the recurrence of issues.
• Engage proactively with business and technical stakeholders to provide guidance and receive support when necessary.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Strong grounding in Software Engineering and Computer Science fundamentals, including proficiency in programming and scripting using at least two core languages such as HCL, Python, Powershell, Bash, Ruby, Go, or JavaScript.
• Proven experience in developing or supporting complex system builds and maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, as well as automation to boost consistency and lessen manual workloads.
• Clear communication skills to articulate technical problems and solutions effectively to both technical teams and team members through concise messaging.
• Capability in managing production incidents encompassing triage, impact analysis, and prioritization steps.
• Experience implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for faster and more reliable software releases.
• A proactive attitude toward learning technical design and specification development and review.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• A curious mindset eager to learn emerging technologies and apply them for business value.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery frameworks involving multiple teams.
• Experience working with cloud-hosted applications, preferably with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
