Position Overview
We are looking for a Shipper/Receiver to join our team under the supervision of the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor. The role involves verifying incoming shipments against documents such as bills of lading and purchase orders and ensuring outgoing shipments are managed with precision. This full-time position works a 40-hour week from Wednesday through Sunday on rotating schedules, with 8-hour shifts between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, including mandatory weekend shifts and potential overtime. The hourly wage is $25.20 plus shift premium.
Primary Responsibilities
- Accurately process and dispatch outbound shipments adhering to schedule
- Validate orders for quantity, items, packaging, labeling, and documentation to ensure perfect shipment accuracy
- Prepare all necessary carrier shipping paperwork, including bills of lading, packing slips, and customs forms
- Arrange freight pickups and coordinate timely delivery with carriers
- Follow customer routing and special handling instructions strictly
- Utilize ERP and warehouse management systems to process shipments and receive goods
- Keep thorough shipment records including weights, dimensions, and freight classifications
- Provide shipment tracking to internal stakeholders and customers as needed
- Prioritize and expedite any urgent shipments
- Report shipping discrepancies, damages, or delays promptly to supervisor
- Receive and inspect inbound materials, components, and finished goods for accuracy, damage or shortages
- Enter receiving data into ERP/WMS systems with precision
- Label, store, and maintain inventory in designated warehouse locations
- Work closely with internal departments to resolve any material discrepancies
- Perform cycle counts and ensure inventory accuracy
- Assist safely with decanning and decoiling operations
- Load and unload trucks using proper material handling equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes
- Maintain clean and organized shipping/receiving areas following 5S standards
- Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and company safety policies
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and be flexible to work overtime as required
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required
- 2 to 3 years of experience in shipping or receiving roles within manufacturing or warehouse environments
- Proficiency with ERP and warehouse management systems
- Knowledge of domestic and international shipping processes
- Skill in preparing shipping documentation and coordinating freight logistics
- Experience operating forklifts (Counterbalance, Raymond Reach, Combi) and overhead cranes is mandatory
- Understanding of steel grades and related customs documentation is beneficial
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Capability to operate in a fast-paced setting managing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to adhere to procedures and work independently with little supervision
