Role Overview
The Shift Leader is responsible for overseeing restaurant shifts and work areas at a Papa John’s location, with the goal of delivering strong product quality, excellent customer service, and healthy restaurant profitability. This role also supports day-to-day operational management by carrying out company policies, procedures, programs, and systems while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and ethical business standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned stations and follow the required methods, standards, and expectations for each area, including dough handling, portion control, and product accuracy.
- Complete station tasks such as preparing quality items, following product preparation steps, and maintaining approved holding times.
- Help the restaurant meet its product targets and customer expectations while reducing complaints and responding appropriately to customer needs.
- Follow all employee handbook rules, including standards related to appearance, attendance, safety, and security.
- Model the company’s core values by maintaining a positive attitude, working collaboratively, and adapting easily to change.
- Make sure shifts are properly staffed, give prompt feedback, and address issues as soon as they are identified.
- Maintain acceptable standards for product quality, guest service, readiness, food and labor costs, cleanliness, and other shift management responsibilities.
- Support profit goals by using the FOCUS system correctly, handling cash management duties, and helping maintain proper inventory levels to reduce waste and loss.
Education, Experience, and Certification
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Food service certification through ServSafe, the local authority, or the state is preferred.
- Prior experience leading restaurant shifts is preferred.
- A history of steady and successful employment is expected.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- This role requires the ability to work long shifts, generally 32+ hours, including scheduled or unscheduled hours, nights, weekends, and emergency situations.
- The person in this role should be able to perform the duties of all restaurant positions when needed.
