Job description

About the Role

Torbay Children's Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Service Manager to lead one of our safeguarding teams within the Decisive Multi Agency Child Protection System. This significant leadership role, reporting directly to the Head of Service, involves providing strategic oversight, driving performance, and ensuring excellent practice across a multi-disciplinary safeguarding service focused on protecting children at risk of harm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of safeguarding services to ensure child-centred, timely interventions.
  • Support and lead Team Managers to deliver effective safeguarding outcomes.
  • Manage performance across the service and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Foster collaboration and partnership working with multi-agency teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop and embed evidence-informed practice and workforce development initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Registered Social Worker with Social Work England and holding a Social Work Degree.
  • Extensive experience working within statutory children's services, especially in safeguarding roles.
  • Proven leadership and management skills managing teams within safeguarding environments.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, Working Together 2023 guidance, and child protection processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and appraise staff, ensuring compliance and professional growth.
  • Capable of making informed decisions by analysing information and assessing risks effectively.
  • Experience in performance monitoring, quality improvement, and compliance management.
  • Excellent knowledge of current legislation, Department for Education guidance, and multi-agency safeguarding frameworks such as the TSCP.
  • Commitment to fostering an equal opportunities culture and reflective supervision practices.
  • Proficient verbal communication and confident spoken English.

Additional Information

  • This position involves Regulated Activity, requiring an Enhanced Criminal Records Check including Barred List checks for Adults and Children.
  • Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 24th August 2026.
  • The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Compensation and Work Details

The annual salary for this position ranges between £60,916 and £64,736. The contract is full-time at 37 hours per week, based onsite in Torquay, England.
