Role Overview

This position is perfect for individuals passionate about Electrical Substation engineering who have meticulous attention to detail and expertise in documentation and diagram preparation. You will lead and execute design projects involving Primary Equipment, Protection and Control systems, and related auxiliary systems at Transmission and Distribution levels. Your technical skills and reliability in delivering client requirements on schedule and within budget will earn you high regard. You will manage design packages covering both Primary and Secondary Substation Engineering aspects.

Work location is hybrid, with three days per week in the Dublin office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering development ensuring inclusion of all multidisciplinary information and create innovative solutions for complex projects.
• Drive timely completion of engineering tasks, coordinate disciplines across multiple projects, and provide technical support during testing, installation, and commissioning phases.
• Serve as a design authority for Primary or Secondary disciplines and carry out related engineering assignments.
• Produce comprehensive project documentation, offering cost-effective, quality solutions within contractual budgets.
• Ensure strict compliance with safety standards and risk mitigation.
• Develop work plans and cost estimates, review and approve project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Design, review, and approve Protection & Control schemes conforming to standards such as ISO 9001, TPs, NGTs, ESIs, BS, and IEC.
• Provide technical support and prepare Work Breakdown Structures to aid tendering processes.
• Maintain project timelines and provide regular progress updates.
• Perform BIM project roles such as Task Information Manager or Task Team Manager according to BIM guidelines.
• Confidently liaise with clients and lead meetings to ensure clear communication.
• Deliver technically sound engineering designs and consultancy services.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree (BEng with honours) in a related engineering discipline and at least 5 years’ relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of Transmission and Distribution networks (220kV to 11kV).
• Experience with Primary (yard/equipment) and/or Secondary (Protection & Control) substation engineering.
• Excellent teamwork, analytical, and communication skills.
• Capability to work effectively under tight deadlines and pressure.
• Proficient with Windows, MS Office, and AutoCAD.
• Solid knowledge of industry engineering methods, tools, and standards.
• Commitment to safety with a high degree of self-motivation and eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Familiarity with Distribution Network Operator and National Grid standards and drawing conventions.
• Experience mentoring and reviewing junior team members’ work.
