Senior Applied Scientist, International Machine Learning

Job Overview

We are seeking an innovative Senior Applied Scientist to join our International Machine Learning team, focused on developing cutting-edge machine learning and statistical solutions to enhance value for Amazon's customers. This role involves building and deploying advanced algorithmic frameworks that optimize millions of daily transactions. The candidate will analyze large datasets to address real-world challenges and contribute directly to improving company profitability by owning end-to-end business metrics.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable machine learning and analytical solutions for complex business problems.
• Interpret and extract actionable insights from vast historical data sets to automate and refine key operational processes.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy innovative predictive learning models at scale.
• Research and apply novel methods in machine learning and statistics to advance model effectiveness.
• Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to implement real-time model deployments and create new features.
• Partner with business stakeholders and operations teams to optimize business workflows.
• Create scalable, efficient automated systems for data analysis, model creation, validation, and maintenance.
• Provide mentorship to other scientists and engineers in machine learning methodologies.

About the Team

The International Machine Learning team addresses unique challenges in India and emerging markets across MENA and Latin America, driving both top-line and bottom-line impact. The team focuses on developing innovative ML solutions tailored to these regions' needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years experience designing and implementing machine learning models for business use cases.
• Advanced degree: PhD or Master's in a relevant field.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
• Strong background in neural networks, deep learning, and general machine learning techniques.

Preferred Expertise

• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries, including R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, numpy, and scipy.
• Experience working with large-scale distributed computing systems such as Hadoop and Apache Spark.
