About the Role
The Nueva Pescanova Group seeks a Seafood Procurement Supervisor based in Castletownbere, County Cork, Ireland. Reporting to the Country Manager, the role focuses on expanding and enhancing the seafood sourcing network throughout Ireland, while supporting the commercial growth of the Group's products within Ireland and the UK. This position involves on-the-ground supplier development, market analysis, and commercial support with an emphasis on establishing strong relationships throughout the Irish seafood sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Identify, visit, and establish relationships with seafood suppliers across Ireland.
- Engage with ports, fishing vessels, processors, seafood operators, and traders to nurture partnerships.
- Source and develop procurement opportunities in frozen-at-sea prawns, monkfish tails, shellfish, fresh fish, and additional local seafood categories.
- Monitor market pricing, product availability, seasonal trends, and quality standards.
- Conduct negotiations on purchasing terms and conditions with suppliers.
- Coordinate product sampling, technical specifications, and required documentation.
- Assess suppliers for reliability, traceability, quality assurance, and service commitments.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of suppliers and deliver consistent market intelligence reports.
- Identify new seafood sourcing opportunities aligned with business objectives.
- Provide procurement intelligence and local market insights to commercial teams.
- Support sales efforts for Group products in both Ireland and the UK markets.
- Facilitate the introduction of vannamei, Argentine red shrimp, and other Group products to new customers beyond the current client portfolio.
- Contribute to margin improvements through enhanced sourcing strategies, strengthened supplier relationships, and improved market positioning.
- Regularly report on sourcing opportunities, supplier performance, potential market risks, and progress in business development.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience in seafood purchasing, sourcing, or commercial functions within the seafood industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the Irish seafood market and its supplier networks is essential.
- Proven ability in negotiating and fostering long-term supplier relationships.
- Capable of identifying new sourcing opportunities and tracking market trends effectively.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and fundamental reporting tools.
- Fluent command of English.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Ireland.
