Job description

Role Overview

The Screener is responsible for ensuring the secure and effective inspection of checked baggage, adhering to regulatory standards, and identifying any prohibited or dangerous items. This role involves operating screening machinery, logging inspection outcomes, coordinating with security personnel, and interacting with travelers to uphold security integrity.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct baggage screening using X-BIS equipment, detecting hazardous materials, forbidden articles, weapons, or ammunition according to prevailing aviation security protocols.
  • Perform manual baggage checks and Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) assessments for flagged items based on X-ray analysis.
  • Maintain high proficiency in Threat Image Projection (TIP) tests to ensure strong image interpretation skills.
  • Ensure compliance with BCAS and DGCA directives throughout screening activities.
  • Document all inspection results and operational details to satisfy inspection and audit requirements.
  • Carry out routine functionality checks on security devices such as X-BIS, ETD, and CT-EDS equipment, reporting malfunctions promptly.
  • Collaborate closely with CISF and airline personnel during physical baggage examinations and resolving suspicious cases.
  • Provide supervisors with regular status updates on screening operations and issues requiring attention.
  • Manage screening processes efficiently, balancing thoroughness with speed to prevent delays.
  • Maintain professional conduct and discipline, promoting a positive team environment and adhering to company policies.

Stakeholder Engagement

Engage with internal teams including CSO Lead Avsec Audit & Compliance, Pass Section Lead (ILHBS), Duty Manager (ILHBS), Sr Screener, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance & Regulatory teams, and other airport departments like Operations and Customer Service. External interactions include Transportation Security Administration (TSA), aircraft operators, airport authorities, passengers, ASG, BCAS, local police, service providers, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum education of high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree or similar preferred.
  • Required TSA certification; completion of BCAS AVSEC basic course, standalone/inline screeners certification by BCAS, and Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) Category 12 certification from DGCA-approved centers is advantageous.
  • Preference for candidates holding NCC “C” or “B” certificates.
  • Entry-level to 1-2 years of relevant experience in airport security screening or related area with familiarity in operating screening technology and security procedures.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Visual acuity: 20/60 or better in both eyes without corrective lenses; or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses or contacts.
  • Color vision: Adequate color perception essential.
  • Hearing ability: Less than 30 dB loss in each ear at frequencies below 2000 Hz.
  • Clear oral communication skills.
  • Physical mobility sufficient to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to detect odors relevant to security operations.
