Safety Officer

Position Overview

Batterjee Medical College is looking for a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to maintain a secure and healthy environment throughout the College. The role involves ensuring adherence to occupational health and safety standards, overseeing fire prevention and protection measures, conducting workplace audits, risk analysis, emergency planning, accident investigation, and fostering safety awareness among staff and students.

Key Duties

• Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, internal policies, and governmental laws.
• Perform routine safety audits in classrooms, labs, administrative offices, technical departments, and other facilities.
• Carry out risk evaluations, identify potential hazards, maintain risk logs, and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
• Supervise and maintain fire safety equipment including extinguishers, alarms, emergency lights, hoses, hydrants, and fire suppression apparatus.
• Organize regular testing, maintenance, inspections, and certification for all fire safety systems.
• Detect and mitigate workplace hazards such as electrical risks, flammable substances, and blocked evacuation routes.
• Lead emergency response initiatives, evacuation drills, fire drills, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine causes and advise on preventative measures.
• Oversee high-risk operations including hot work and electrical maintenance to ensure safety compliance and permits.
• Conduct training sessions and awareness programs on safety for both employees and students.
• Monitor contractor adherence to safety and fire prevention regulations.
• Keep comprehensive records of inspections, incidents, remedial actions, equipment inspections, training sessions, and emergency exercises.
• Support and participate in internal and external safety audits, maintaining audit-ready documents.
• Collaborate with departments like Maintenance, Security, Administration, contractors, and relevant authorities on safety issues.
• Continuously evaluate and improve the College's safety procedures, policies, and culture.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related discipline.
• Possess a valid professional classification under Saudi Occupational Safety and Health Cadres (كوادر السلامة والصحة المهنية) — a mandatory requirement.
• Certified in Fire Safety and/or Occupational Safety.
• Preference for candidates holding NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent professional safety certifications.
• At least 3 to 5 years' practical experience in occupational health and safety roles.
• Knowledgeable and experienced in fire safety management, risk assessments, emergency handling, incident investigations, and safety inspections.
• Experience in higher education institutions, healthcare, or large organizational settings is advantageous.

• Highly responsible with keen attention to detail and vigilance.
• Good command of both Arabic and English languages.

Mandatory Condition

Applicants must hold a valid professional safety classification under the Saudi OSH Cadres. Applications lacking this certification will not be considered.
