Role Overview
The Safety Officer will ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols across solar project sites. The position involves vigilant safety monitoring, conducting audits and inspections, leading incident investigations, delivering safety training, and fostering a robust safety culture throughout the organization.
Key Duties
- Monitor and enforce compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations onsite.
- Perform daily inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Implement safety protocols to minimize risks linked to civil and mechanical works for solar projects.
- Ensure proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) by workers and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions and orientation programs for new hires.
- Promote a proactive safety culture encouraging hazard reporting among staff.
- Investigate onsite accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Document and report safety incidents promptly to management and regulatory bodies.
- Carry out risk assessments related to electrical, mechanical, and civil construction hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
- Maintain up-to-date site-specific risk assessments and revise them as necessary.
- Conduct routine safety audits and coordinate with external auditors and authorities.
- Develop emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure availability and maintenance of first-aid and emergency equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive safety records and submit detailed reports highlighting compliance and safety performance to senior management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- NEBOSH certification is highly desirable; other safety-related certifications such as OSHA are advantageous.
- Minimum 5 to 6 years’ experience as a Safety or HSE Officer within the solar sector or construction industry.
- Extensive knowledge of safety laws and standards relevant to the solar industry, including OSHA and NEBOSH.
- Experience in conducting audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and delivering safety training.
- Proficiency with safety management software and emergency response planning.
