Team & Product Overview

The Maritime Division at Anduril unites experts in software, robotics, AI, sensor fusion, and data analytics to engineer next-generation autonomous maritime systems. Their portfolio includes ultra-long-range underwater vessel platforms and scalable maritime vehicles—from small to extra-large—that support missions in inaccessible ocean depths. The division is heavily investing in expanding its product range, including proprietary platforms like Dive-XL, Dive-LD, Copperhead, Seabed Sentry, and forthcoming systems, all integrated into a unified system-of-systems framework to deliver comprehensive autonomous maritime mission capabilities.

Role Summary

The Robotics Engineer will be responsible for delivering vehicle perception and planning capabilities as core components of Anduril's maritime products. This involves system analysis, sensor integration, perception system architecture, motion planning, anomaly and health management, simulation, and testing. The role requires end-to-end project ownership throughout the autonomous platforms’ lifecycle, collaborating in a team environment focused on swift design, development, and evolution of these pioneering technologies.

Key Duties

• Design and implement reliable navigation, collision avoidance, and situational awareness systems that balance multiple constraints and stakeholder requirements.
• Develop scalable subsystems like sensor data processing, perception, tracking, motion planning, health monitoring, anomaly detection, simulation setups, testing rigs, and vehicle system interfaces.
• Contribute to shared software components aimed at cross-product reuse within Anduril's portfolio.
• Leverage advanced techniques in computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning to improve perception and planning algorithms.
• Perform rigorous testing and validation of perception and planning modules using simulations and real-world experimental data analysis, including the evolution of data analysis tools.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across software, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines ensuring successful integration and system tests.
• Travel occasionally (up to 20%) to work alongside end-users and other teams as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related areas.
• Proficiency in software development with C++ and/or Python.
• Hands-on familiarity with autonomous vehicle hardware and sensors such as radar, sonar, LIDAR, and cameras.
• Demonstrated expertise in at least one domain among computer vision, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, or machine learning.
• Experience in senior roles focused on perception or planning within robotic systems development.
• Ability to take technical ownership of systems including stakeholder engagement, requirements management, roadmap development, coordination, implementation, maintenance, and evolution.
• Skill in defining and enforcing robust procedures for validation and verification of perception and planning systems.
• Strong aptitude for independent growth in expertise, mentoring junior colleagues, and fostering team collaboration.
• Eligibility for Australian Government Negative Vetting 2 security clearance (NV2).

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to autonomous systems in domains like ground, air, maritime, or space.
• Experience with simulation frameworks such as Gazebo, Unity, or Unreal Engine for validating algorithms.
• Familiarity with safety standards and certification processes related to autonomous technologies.
• Understanding of System Engineering principles.
