Quantity Surveyor

Role overview

This role is responsible for steering the commercial and contractual side of construction projects. The Quantity Surveyor helps keep projects financially healthy, legally sound, and delivered to a high standard by balancing cost, quality, and schedule.

Cost management and procurement

• Track project budgets, maintain cost control, and prepare cost reports.
• Oversee project finances from the early stages through to completion.
• Manage purchasing activities, including materials and subcontractor sourcing and negotiation.

Contract administration and project support

• Draft subcontract paperwork and coordinate the tender process.
• Prepare and administer contracts, including bills of quantities.
• Monitor compliance with contract terms and conditions.
• Review proposed contract changes and negotiate amendments with subcontractors and clients.
• Provide commercial guidance to the site team.
• Support delivery so the project stays within budget and on schedule.

Client liaison

• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients.
• Share regular updates on project progress and financial performance.
• Handle client concerns and work toward a satisfactory outcome.

Reporting and documentation

• Prepare detailed progress updates and tender costing information.
• Measure completed work and arrange payment processing.
• Keep all records accurate, complete, and current.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB is often expected.
• At least 5 years of experience in a comparable quantity surveying role within the construction sector.
