About the Role
Currock Engineering Company Limited is expanding its Quality Control team due to increased workload, seeking a proficient Quality Control Inspector to work the late/night shift at their Chelmsford location. This position comes with a limited-time £2,000 sign-on bonus, subject to the scheme’s terms.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive inspections and tests on products, materials, and components to confirm adherence to quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory benchmarks in line with AS9100.
- Keep precise documentation of all inspection outcomes, including measurements, observations, and identifying any defects or deviations.
- Ensure compliance with established quality control practices and safety standards across all products and processes.
- Detect, record, and report any flaws, discrepancies, or non-compliance issues to the relevant stakeholders for prompt correction.
- Randomly select samples from production batches or stock for quality assessment.
- Carry out and document inspections for first articles, in-process items, and final products, utilizing measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shadow graphs, digital height gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
- Report non-conformances, unsafe conditions, faulty or out-of-calibration equipment, or procedural lapses to the Team Leader.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to identify and implement process enhancements aimed at improving product quality and operational efficiency.
- Conduct visual and mechanical inspections aligned with customer technical drawings, demonstrating strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Interpret and apply customer requirements during inspection processes.
- Inspect raw materials to verify consistency and integrity.
- Contribute to Lean methodologies such as 5S to promote continuous operational improvement.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives targeting certifications like ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Adhere strictly to company Health & Safety policies and assist in enforcement among all personnel and visitors, supporting the Health & Safety Committee’s activities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong expertise in Quality Control methodologies.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, including understanding geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Proficient in operating measurement tools like micrometers, callipers, shadow graph, digital height gauge, and CMM equipment.
- Capability to participate in root cause analysis of defects and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and production workflows.
- Competence in multitasking and re-prioritizing duties as directed by supervisory personnel.
- Excellent time management skills and initiative to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Proactive commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
Additional Experience (Preferred)
- Work experience within a Quality Management System (QMS) and knowledge of AS9100.
- Competence in inspection and measurement techniques, with practical experience in mechanical measuring devices; CMM experience is advantageous.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
- Ability to perform First Article Inspections to AS9102 standards.
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving approaches.
- Experience with internal auditing under ISO9001 or AS9100 is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience supporting Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) or Statistical Quality Control (SQC) is desirable but not essential.
- Basic familiarity with ISO45001 (Health & Safety) and ISO14001 (Environmental) standards is advantageous.

Working Hours
Shift starts flexibly between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Shift finishes flexibly between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM Monday to Thursday, with a midnight finish on Friday.
