Role overview
We are looking for a QC Engineer to join the workshop and engineering teams in Doha. The position focuses on inspection, quality control, dimensional checking, and compliance work for rotating machinery such as compressors, turbines, and pumps. This is a practical, shop-floor-heavy role that requires solid experience with engineering drawings, inspection methods, non-destructive testing requirements, quality plans, and customer/OEM specifications.
The successful candidate will make sure that raw materials, machined parts, repaired items, and precision assemblies are examined and tested in line with company procedures, OEM expectations, client requirements, regulatory rules, and relevant international standards.
Key responsibilities
- Support engineering and workshop teams with inspection methods, quality applications, tools, techniques, and systems.
- Perform dimensional checks on rotating equipment parts including compressors, turbines, pumps, machined components, and precision assemblies.
- Conduct shop-floor inspection work and guide the team using engineering drawings, tolerances, and technical specifications.
- Study OEM and client quality plans, inspection and test plans, and identify hold points, witness points, and inspection stages.
- Draft project quality plans and inspection test plans for review and approval by OEMs and clients.
- Confirm that materials, parts, and finished products are inspected and tested against required tolerances and performance standards.
- Set up and carry out mechanical inspection of machined parts and assembled equipment to confirm compliance with specifications, tolerances, and workmanship expectations.
- Operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines, including Faro Arm systems.
- Use precision instruments such as gauges, micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, thread gauges, and similar tools.
- Carry out thread inspection according to API 5CT, API 5B, API 7-1, and API 7-2 requirements.
- Apply the correct fits and tolerances for machine shop products.
- Perform PT and MT inspections in line with ASNT Level II certification requirements.
- Investigate non-conformances, carry out root cause analysis, and work with line managers on corrective actions.
- Work with procurement to inspect incoming materials, components, and equipment.
- Handle equipment calibration work and coordinate specialist calibration support through external contractors when needed.
- Communicate with clients, contractors, certifying bodies, third-party inspectors, and internal stakeholders on quality matters.
- Ensure the workshop follows company quality policies, procedures, inspection standards, and QHSE requirements.
- Keep inspection records, reports, calibration logs, NCRs, and other quality documents up to date.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in quality practices, inspection processes, productivity, and workshop efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- At least 5 years of QC or inspection experience in a workshop, machine shop, or rotating equipment repair setting.
- Proven practical experience in dimensional inspection of rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, and related precision parts.
- Mandatory hands-on shop-floor inspection experience in engineering services, a machine shop, or a rotating equipment workshop.
- Ability to read, understand, and advise on engineering drawings, tolerances, specifications, and inspection requirements.
- ASNT Level II certification in PT and MT is required.
- Experience with API thread inspection standards, including API 5CT, API 5B, API 7-1, and API 7-2.
- Faro Arm / CMM operation and programming experience is strongly preferred.
- Confident use of micrometers, gauges, vernier calipers, dial gauges, thread gauges, and other precision inspection tools.
- Good knowledge of quality plans, ITPs, inspection procedures, NCR processing, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Experience working with clients, OEMs, contractors, certifying authorities, and third-party inspectors.
- Understanding of calibration control, equipment verification, and inspection documentation practices.
- Strong knowledge of QHSE procedures, workshop quality compliance, and continuous improvement methods.
- Good communication, reporting, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred background
- Experience in a rotating equipment repair or refurbishment workshop.
- Exposure to compressors, turbines, pumps, shafts, impellers, casings, mechanical seals, and precision assemblies.
- Involvement in preparing and obtaining approval for OEM or client quality plans.
- Background in machine shop inspection and dimensional verification of mechanical components.
- Work experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, or industrial workshop environments.
