About the Role
Stratford Hall, an independent K-12 IB World School based in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a dedicated Property Service Worker (Custodian) to join their Operations team. This permanent, full-time position involves supporting the maintenance and safety of the school’s buildings and grounds located at 3000 Commercial Drive. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager and interact with students, staff, vendors, and the wider school community. Immediate start is expected, and the compensation ranges from $26.50 to $28.50 per hour, supplemented by an extensive benefits package including RRSP matching and health and dental coverage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure routine cleaning and maintenance of school facilities, including classrooms, washrooms, kitchens, and exterior grounds.
- Restock supplies such as consumables in washrooms and other areas to maintain hygiene standards.
- Promptly address clean-ups related to child accidents and manage detailed cleaning such as graffiti removal and power washing of outdoor areas.
- Conduct seasonal outdoor tasks like snow removal, salting, and landscaping duties.
- Perform repairs and maintenance assignments, including wall patching, painting, installation of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
- Assist with minor plumbing tasks such as clearing drain and toilet blockages.
- Carry out routine inspections of playgrounds, equipment, and drainage systems, reporting any issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Provide operational support for events, including set-up and tear-down activities, and transport of equipment and furniture across the campus.
- Maintain safety on campus by patrolling buildings and grounds, managing traffic control during peak times, and reporting any unsafe conditions.
- Participate in mandatory safety and emergency response trainings.
- Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or janitorial roles.
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively and courteously with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Basic computer proficiency, particularly for using ticketing systems and email.
- Current Level 1 First Aid and WHMIS certifications or willingness to obtain them through the school.
- Capability to earn certifications in scissor lift operation and fall arrest systems within three months of employment.
- Physical ability to perform manual duties, including bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
- Competency in using and maintaining hand and power tools.
- Good understanding of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry maintenance techniques.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations and troubleshoot problems.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations to ensure workplace safety.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information
- Work shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday, with morning (7am-3pm) and afternoon (2pm-10pm) shifts, subject to change.
- The role requires immediate availability for commencement.
