This position offers a senior HR leadership opportunity within Queensland’s elite sport environment, supporting a fast-moving organisation as it works toward major milestones including Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032. Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is progressing through an ambitious period of growth and performance, building on recent Olympic and Paralympic success to deliver more medal-winning outcomes over the coming years. The role suits an experienced HR professional who is comfortable operating close to the business, shaping outcomes, and advising confidently on complex matters while coaching leaders and supporting a small team.

Working alongside committed colleagues, you will contribute to workforce strategies that help enable exceptional sporting results while improving the employee and manager experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct workforce planning, talent mapping, and succession activities so the organisation can anticipate future capability needs and maintain strong talent pipelines.
  • Offer up-to-date guidance on public sector employment relations and regulatory obligations, turning legislation, policy, and standards into workable solutions for performance, workplace change, and health and safety matters.
  • Develop strong partnerships across sport and public sector networks to align workforce approaches, address shared issues, and improve organisational outcomes.
  • Create and improve HR initiatives, policies, and programs that respond to new business challenges and support future-focused workforce results.
  • Manage rare, complex, and sensitive employment matters such as grievances, conflict, conduct, discipline, health-related cases, and return-to-work issues using practical judgement and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Support and motivate team members to deliver high-quality HR services that build capability and improve the experience of managers and employees.
