POS/ Appeal Underwriter

About the Role

Join AIA Singapore as a POS/ Appeal Underwriter contributing to the mission of fostering healthier, more sustainable communities by ensuring sound underwriting practices in individual life and health insurance. You will assess POS requests including increases in sum assured, rider inclusions, and non-disclosure cases, alongside managing appeals related to underwriting decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct timely underwriting assessments for POS requests and inform intermediaries of decisions within established turnaround times while minimizing additional requirements.
• Negotiate with reinsurers to secure favorable terms for business placements.
• Maintain adherence to agreed turnaround times for case underwriting.
• Address enquiries and resolve issues in collaboration with channel management teams.
• Manage appeals concerning substandard or postponed/declined cases through direct communication with agents or business development managers, clarifying rationales and exploring alternatives.
• Identify and recommend improvements to underwriting processes and operational efficiency.
• Participate in ad hoc projects such as reviewing underwriting guidelines and requirements.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possession of a tertiary qualification, preferably in fields like Science, Biology, Nursing, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Business Studies.
• Between 5 to 7 years of experience in individual life and health insurance underwriting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Analytical mindset with self-motivation.
• Capability to work independently and manage pressure effectively.
