Role Summary
The People Operations Generalist position involves managing a spectrum of employment-related functions such as employee relations, performance management, labor law compliance, and benefits administration. This role serves as a key resource for employees and managers by offering support and guidance on workplace matters. Additionally, it encompasses policy development, training facilitation, and fostering a positive organizational culture. The role demands excellent communication skills, organizational ability, and discretion in handling confidential information.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with labor laws across local, state, and federal levels, placing special emphasis on diversity-related policies.
- Maintain and update employee records and company People policies to meet compliance standards.
- Alert People Team leaders to emerging trends in employee relations or potential compliance concerns.
- Offer expert guidance to leadership on topics including employee relations, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations while ensuring documentation compliance.
- Assist in setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and providing constructive feedback.
- Analyze workforce data to identify diversity gaps; prepare reports detailing People metrics and provide actionable insights.
- Maintain data accuracy and integrity in HR information systems and shared drives, following best practices.
- Manage and troubleshoot People-related technology systems, recommend improvements, and support process enhancement initiatives.
- Develop and implement programs fostering inclusive workplace culture and collaborate with leadership to align diversity objectives with business strategies.
- Provide input on key People programs, including performance processes and engagement surveys, in cross-functional teamwork.
- In partnership with the Senior Total Rewards Manager, support benefits and leave program communication and administration.
- Administer onboarding programs aligned with strategic goals and oversee headcount management ensuring consistency of job descriptions and processes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree and HR certification preferred.
- At least five years' experience in HR administration, rewards, benefits, or as a generalist; familiarity with enterprise HRIS preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of Human Resources principles applied with independent judgment to employee relations, training, and compliance matters.
- Proven ability to creatively resolve complex employee and leadership issues, suggesting alternatives and collaborating to reach effective solutions.
- Demonstrates curiosity, resilience, adaptability, a continuous learning mindset, and openness to change.
- Excellent written and verbal skills characterized by empathy and clarity even in challenging conversations.
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose employment issues, apply creativity, and drive continuous improvement.
- Adept at building productive collaborations and partnerships with team members and leaders based on trust and responsiveness.
- Experienced with HRIS platforms such as Workday; knowledge of project management tools like JIRA and collaboration platforms including Google Docs and Slack; willingness to learn other People systems such as CultureAmp, Continu, and Tilt.
- Willingness to travel up to 5% as needed.
