Job Overview

Seeking a Payroll Specialist to handle comprehensive payroll operations for a client based in Newport, Rhode Island. This role is crucial for guaranteeing timely and accurate employee payments, maintaining detailed payroll records, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Duties

  • Oversee the entire weekly payroll process, ensuring punctual and precise payroll disbursements.
  • Review timesheets, attendance, and payroll data thoroughly before concluding each payroll cycle.
  • Calculate various compensation components including regular wages, overtime, shift differentials, and incentive pay.
  • Accurately apply appropriate withholdings such as taxes, benefits contributions, and garnishments.
  • Maintain meticulous payroll documentation and verify all payroll activities are authorized and properly recorded.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws across multiple states.
  • Perform payroll tax functions including filings, payments, and reconciliations aligned with deadlines.
  • Support year-end payroll responsibilities, including wage statement preparation and issue resolution.
  • Generate payroll reports, reconcile accounts, and assist with audit processes for HR, Finance, and external parties.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience managing full payroll cycles in a detail-focused environment.
  • Proven track record handling payroll for a workforce of around 500 staff.
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations and compliance.
  • Practical experience with ADP Workforce Now payroll system.
  • Strong grasp of payroll deductions, tax computations, and end-of-year procedures.
  • Exceptional accuracy, confidentiality, and organizational skills in managing sensitive employee information.
  • Competency in preparing reports, resolving discrepancies, and facilitating payroll audits.
